I have just returned from the Balanced Body conference in London, and I’m brimming with excitement to share all my experiences. It was wonderful working with such elite teachers. The highlight of the week was my 3 day course with Phillip Beech DO DAc OSNZ. He is an Osteopathic and Acupuncture Practitioner and has studied the ancient map of the Chinese meridians. He has lived and worked in the UK for over 20 years, but now lives in New Zealand, and after reading his book Muscles and Meridians a few years ago and putting into practice many of his findings with good results, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to meet the man behind the theory.
He lived up to all my expectations. His philosophy is firmly based on an understanding of evolutionary and developmental biology coupled with the ancient Chinese map of the meridians. There is far too much theory to put into one short blog post, but it boils down to this: we need to spend more time sitting on the floor. These floor sitting postures, which Phillip calls (Archetypal Postures), coupled with walking barefoot outside for a few minutes each day, are essential to retune our musculoskeletal system. I could go on and on about his work and quote several of his case studies but I’ll save that for when I see you in person!
